Rex Orange County Concert Review

Rex Orange County featuring Jim Reed [drums], Darryl Dew [bass], Michael Underwood [guitar & sax], Johnny Woodham [trumpet], and of course Alex O’Connor [singer, piano & guitar] are currently on their 2022 Who Cares? Tour. This Saturday’s show was at St. Louis Music Park in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

His bright, sunny vibes paired perfectly with the warm June weather and chilly evening at St. Louis Music Park. Maraijuana smoke filled the sky as young adults filled the outdoor venue.

It started at 8 pm with no one opening for him to accommodate the late start time. Simple melodies filled the night air and the performance was easy to enjoy with the bright colored lights of the stage. Neon sculptures of thumb-like characters supporting different accessories filled the stage as well as a giant neon sign showing it was the “Who Cares?” tour.

After a brief introduction, Rex performed “KEEP IT UP” off of his new “Who Cares?” album. The song is about persevering in hard times and overcoming challenges. Throughout the show, Rex jumped, kicked, ran, and danced freely across the stage. From playing the guitar or the piano, Rex could always be seen doing something. He played multiple songs from his new album including “ONE IN A MILLION” and “OPEN A WINDOW” but also incorporated some of his older music featured on other albums, such as “Corduroy Dreams” and “Best Friend.”

Rex saved the fan favorites for the end, using disco balls and giant beach balls bouncing from all sides of the venue during “Loving Is Easy.” He ended the show with “Pluto Projector,” an ultimate fan favorite. From beginning to the end, the show was a great escape from reality with great vocals and great energy.
